Prince Williams nanny asked to look after George
Prince William and Kate have approached the princes former nanny Jessie Webb age 71 to come out of retirement and help care for George.
She is said to be tempted but unsure about returning to full time hours. Jessie was a trusted nanny who cared for William and Harry throughout their childhood and through the distressing times of Prince Charles and Diana’s divorce, she was a caring nanny who was always there to help and willing to pick the boys up and give them hugs when they needed it.
Now as a young father, William wants to recreate the feeling of security that Jessie gave him and pass it on to his own son.
Kate, 31, regards herself as a modern mother and hopes to carry on doing as much as she can herself with support from her mum Carole Middleton with whom she is spending the first six weeks.
Kate wants to be a hands on mum but has been warned that she will need help to be able to care for the baby and complete her royal duties. If Jessie decides to take up duties again, she will find Kensington Palace – William’s boyhood and now marital home – very different to the household she joined in the late 1980s.
Jessie is said to be firm but fair with a great sense of humour If Jessie decides to take up duties again, she will find Kensington Palace – William’s boyhood and now marital home – very different to the household she joined in the late 1980s.
Jessie spent five years working for Diana. Later she returned to royal duties helping Viscount Linley and his wife Serena looking after their son and daughter before retiring to a royal apartment in Kennington, South London.
Jessie was a guest at the Prince’s 21st birthday party at Windsor Castle when someone dressed as Osama bin Laden triggered a security scare.
The ex-nanny was also a guest at the royal wedding two years ago.
One royal courtier said: Jessie would be ideal. Everyone likes her. She is discreet and she’s of an age when she’s not going to have her picture in the papers every five minutes.
William is in contact with Kate and his baby son every day by videolink and Kate is supposed to be joining him on the island in four weeks time as he is now back at work after his Paternity leave came to a end.
A source said: He’s missing them like crazy. But for the first time in two weeks he’s had a good night’s sleep.
